July 26, 1943: My Life in the Service

July 26 – Had a lousy week-end. Just missed seeing “Biography” with llka Chase. Real mad. Saw “Du Barry Was A Lady” and “Constant Nymph”. Ran into Sgt. Albert from Eglin & Sybil Reed from K.J.C. Saw a stage show with Tommie Tucker, Margie Hart, Oxford Boys & Hal Sherman. Been eating some wonderful Italian food. Had my first crème de menthe. Wow!

Headlines in the paper read – “Mussolini Quits.” The best news in months. Got a letter from Erny, Cornbread, & Dad. Time out for a class.
